Day 6

Are y'all ready for this???!!! They took Claire's IV out last night at midnight! It was so nice walking into that room and not seeing her "horn" anymore. She also ate 15ml at midnight all in one sitting.  She is really starting to get the hang of it. They had increased her feedings to 28ml and so far has tolerated them wonderfully!
Some serious cuteness!
This morning at 9 when I went to feed her the nurse asked if I noticed anything different. I thought she meant her IV but oh no......they took out her nasal cannula too! They are going to see how she does without it today and so far she is doing amazing. Nurse said that it will effect her eating for a couple days because she will really have to work a little harder to get oxygen during the suck/swallow but should only take her a few days to adjust. At her 9 o'clock feeding she was having a little trouble but still took 5ml on her own. It is so nice now because I am able to do most of her feedings myself.  Nice to be able to start taking over the care of her a little at a time.

The NP said her bilirubin was starting to creep up again and even though it was not at a dangerous level, she wanted to go ahead and nip it in the bud.  Hopefully we can get it taken care of and then not have to keep poking her daily. We started her on phototherapy again this morning and will do it for 24 hours.

This evening my mom brought the kids up to the hospital and we watched Shrek Forever and got Mr. Gatti's pizza. The DVD player in our room ended up not working so we watched it on a tiny little dvd player. Only after they left did I realize that my computer probably would have played it. The kids didn't seem to mind though and really enjoyed playing hide-n-seek behind the curtain and just running around our other house.

After we ate the nurses opened up the blinds in Claire's area and let the kids take a quick peek at her. She is under the lights so they couldn't really see her but now they at least know that she really is here and where her bed is. Next week we are going to let Carly meet her for the first time. Now that all the wires are gone I think it would be a good time to let her.

On another note....I get my staples out tomorrow!!! So ready!
