It has been such a good day! At her midnight feeding she was so alert that the nurse let me try to breastfed. She is still to young to actually do it as her main feeding but she sucked for a few minutes before tiring out and then took 7ml out of a bottle! Seriously the proudest mom ever! They weighed her last night and she is down to 3 pounds 12.9 ounces. She is so tiny but she is so long that she almost looks big.
This morning I got to spend 2 hours with her again. She was wide awake for like 30 minutes and even though it wasn't feeding time they still let me put her on the breast and again she took like 4 good sucks and even had milk in her mouth afterwards that she swallowed. I know it seems really stupid to get excited about that but it is just a huge accomplishment for her.
They increased her feeds today and so far she is tolerating them well, if she continues to then they are going to take her IV out! I can't wait to have her free of all the wires and really get to cuddle her without fear of pulling it out etc. They had to restart another one last night and I hate that she has to keep getting poked. Hopefully it will all be over soon though.
My mom came up today and what does Gammy do??? Take pictures and lots of them. I tell Claire that the paparazzi has arrived. She did get some amazing ones though of her with her "gas" smiles. Can't wait to share them.
On another note, the hospital is letting us stay free of charge in our original room unless the patient census gets too big that they need it. The call it "nesting" and it allows me to be with her at all times. I don't have to drive back and forth and I get to use their pumps etc. They have even graciously given us one meal voucher a day which is a huge help. The only problem is that I am away from the other two. Right now my mom and Dylan's mom are taking turns spending the night with them. Dylan goes back to work next week and then we will be separated, he will stay with the kids at night while I stay here. It is not the best scenario but the only one that seems to make sense right now. I am not ready to leave her here by herself, even though I know they take amazing care of her.
I already miss Carly and Clay so much that it seriously hurts. My mom is suppose to bring them up tomorrow night so we can have a party. We are going to get pizza and watch a movie in the room. I am so looking forward to it! I have only been apart from them for 24 hours and let me tell you... this has been the longest 4 days of my life. But I know that they are in good hands and they are happy so that is all that matters.
We are one day closer to bringing her home!
So happy she is getting stronger every day!
ReplyDeleteWendy--- you have come so far from being the shy little girl I grew up with to a strong woman! Please let me or my parents know if there is anything we can do for y'all. I am sure they would love to watch the kiddos or bring y'all food. I am so happy that Claire is getting stronger by the day. This little girl has given you trouble from the start :-)
