Lately I have been really hard on myself. I am with the kids all day long, we do school, chores, cook, pretty much just do life and to be honest there isn't a whole lot of "playing" done on my part. Mostly because by the time we get done with school and our chores I am completely exhausted and in need of a really long nap.
Dylan comes home and the kids go crazy sword fighting and playing outside with him. I started getting the "mom guilt," you know when you start thinking that you suck at your job and your kids are going to grow up screwed up.
Then I read this article by my favorite person ever... Jen Hatmaker: http://community.today.com/parentingteam/post/what-would-my-mom-do-drink-tab-and-lock-us-outside and I realized that this is my life. I don't entertain my kids , and you know, it is OK. I realized that I do spend tons of quality time with them. Mine is just a little more low key than their super awesome energetic Dad. We read books and cuddle.... a lot. So I am trying to let go of the guilt. I mean that's why I am having tons of kids..... so they can entertain each other!
On a completely different note, we have finally, after 9 months of homeschooling, gotten into a pretty good groove. The Little's are so good about entertaining themselves while Carly and I start school each morning. They read books, play outside or just sit quietly and watch. This is their favorite spot though: The library-book-reading-nook.
We just started a new curriculum this past week and Carly loves it. She can't wait to start in the mornings and is normally sitting at her desk waiting for me patiently to get done with morning chores so we can start.
We checked out this really cool kids gardening book from the library and it had tons of really fun crafts to do as well as super awesome gardening tips. Carly found one where you cut the top off an egg, decorate it like a person and then plant grass seed inside so that it grows hair. It looked really awesome, so today we emptied some confetti eggs, added soil and grass seed and are anxiously awaiting it to start growing.
How awesome is this?! Will keep you posted as it hopefully grows.
So I did something completely unlike me...... I packed the kids up and took them to see Cinderella at the theater. I haven't been with the kids since "The Lorax" came out and Dylan took the older two to Frozen but this was Bear's first time at the theater. The kids did awesome, I mean awesome. All three sat through the whole thing, even little Bear, without a peep. I am trying to figure out why I haven't been doing this the entire past year. Oh and the movie is awesome, definitely a must see!
Here is to a productive and super awesome Fun Friday!
Thank you for sharing that article! So excited we are going to get to hear Jen speak in Dallas next fall! Woohoo! And how exciting about the movies! I am so ready for T to be big enough. ;)
