You think as a parent that there is not way you could love another child as much as you love the first one but it is simply not true. I feel like I love them all more after I bring home the new baby. I have only had Claire for 6 weeks but can already not imagine a life without her. The older 2 love having her around too. Instead of being jealous, Carly always makes sure that I am aware of every little sound that she makes and will tell me at bedtime to make sure that Claire sleeps in her bed in my room and that I feed her. She always wants me to hold her on the couch and get upset if she is sleeping in her crib instead of on me.
This morning Claire was wide awake and the kids were entertaining her. Carly was showing off all her best scary faces and Clay decided to sing her a song. I have no idea what he was singing but thankfully I had my camera on the table next to us so that I could capture it. Claire wasn't too interested and turned her head away from him halfway through his song. She wasn't impressed!!
I completely respect people's decision to only have one child, you have to do what works for you and your family but when I see the way my kids play together and love each other I can't imagine them not having each other. They have this amazing built in playmate. Carly and Clay are 2 years apart but most days you wouldn't even be able to tell because they play so well together. When they wake up from naps the first thing either one of them says is, "Where is Carly" or "Where is Bub." I took just Carly to the grocery store the other day and she got upset halfway through our shopping and told me that she missed Bub. It made me smile that she loves him and misses him when he is not there. Don't get me wrong, they fight just like any normal brother and sister but most days the fun out weighs the fighting.
We let them play in the rain after dinner the other night and I secretly was wishing that I was still a little kid and wouldn't look absolutely ridiculous running around in the rain with them. I probably would have if not for Claire. They both had so much fun and it made me realize that these are those little moments that they will probably remember. It was completely irresponsible of Dylan and I since it was thundering so please don't judge!
Chalk is really cool when wet if you have never tried it, kinda like paint. |
Chasing each other, love Bub's face- priceless |
Did you ever built tents when you were little? I remember making them out of the kitchen chairs and draping a million blankets/sheets over anything that I could and then securing them with encyclopedias (does anyone even know what those are anymore??). The kids always play on the landing of the stairs, they will drag all their toys in the small little area and play forever so I told them before supper I would make it a little tent. So not that cool looking on the outside but was pretty cool on the inside. Leaving it up overnight so we will see how long it last.
