Taekwondo Tournament

I never imagined that the Martial Arts would be so amazing for our family. It went from something we put Clay into as a way to make friends and have an activity of his own to something that Carly now loves and our whole family gets to be apart of.

We had our 2nd tournament this past weekend. It was Clay's second time competing and Carly's first. They kids had been sick the entire week before with a really bad virus. We almost were afraid we were not going to be able to compete.

Clay went first for his pattern. He competed a new pattern this time and one that Dylan and I were a little nervous about. We had tried to get him to do his old one because this one was a little more advanced and he didn't have it down as good as we thought. We were blown away at how well he did it at competition. He won first place! He was so excited and proud of his trophy.  Last tournament he got 2nd place.

Carly went next and man..... her pattern is incredible! She tied for 2nd place but during the tie breaker she ended up with 3rd. She always wanted to do dance and after putting her in this I think it is the best of both worlds. The patterns have a dance element that don't require you to be graceful but more powerful and she rocks it.

Our instructor is as good as they get. He is so encouraging and wonderful with them.

Next they competing in Sparring. Last year Clay was super timid and not very aggressive. This year he was a new kid. He did so good! He got 3rd in sparring!

Carly went next and was super timid.  She still got 4th place and had a lot of fun.

The two were such troopers. It is a long day. We got there at 8:30 and sat in the stands until almost 4:00.

After the tournament Grand Master Park, who is the leader and founder of Unified Taekwondo, wrote the kids names on their uniform in Korean. :)

Tournament time is a great day. They love getting to spend the day competing and hanging out with all their friends. After the tournament a good portion of the team goes out for dinner together.

There isn't much better than being exhausted from a hard days work and falling asleep holding your 1st place trophy. :)
